I always hear about them … sometimes I heard that by signing up to a credit card you also get gift cards or gifts, I just wanna get the best for my deal, but first I need to know what credit card is best when it comes to everything with special offers too. Personal experiences appreciated….
I’m interested to build some credit and to use it for emergencies,also… small purchases and get cash back type… I know I can make the full payments monthly and on time. I just want a good deal and the best credit card.

I have read about what to look for in a credit card and what to watch out for, such as: no (hidden, setup, annual, etc) fees, no minimum balance, 0% to good interest rates, etc.

and to look for good reward programs if I’ll be using it often (which would be yes because I hate shopping at stores, isn’t it tedious?), online payment options etc.

The problem is that many of these great benefits that you should look for, truly, are offered and exclusive to people with good credit, it seems. I have no credit whatsoever and it seems as if there are Capital One’s in every corner of my town. I know it’s popular amongst 1st time users and I’m trying to open a savings/checking account and getting a credit/debit card. Any suggestions for the best credit card? name of it? or bank?

I have been seriously considering Charles Schwab’s checking account because it seems fantastic! is Charles Schwab’s, generally, a good bank?

I never use it, ever. Would it be better to close it or keep it open? I’ve been told that canceling your oldest credit card hurts your credit but I’m not sure maintaining one with a permanent 0 balance will do much good either.

I maxed it out and couldn’t make payments, so I just stopped paying and ceased contact with them. Yeah..Really dumb move. A collections company finally threatened wage garnishment about a year-and-a-half ago. By that time, the balance was up to more than ,000 with fees and interest. I was scared and started making payments of 5. I’ve paid a total of ,800 since then (the amount I actually put on the card). They’re offering me a ,000 settlement on the remaining balance, which I know is not a good offer, because with the ,800 I’ve already paid that would mean I would have given them almost the full amount. FYI, I have virtually nothing saved have a take-home income of about ,500 a month. What should I offer them? How can I get the best settlement offer? Does anyone know of a ballpark amount that they will accept? I realize I got myself into this situation by being extremely irresponsible. Now I am just trying to get myself out of this hole.
