What is the best credit card company to apply for as a student starting to build credit?

I’m just a college student looking to build credit with small payments on a credit card. I got a student offer in the mail from discover, but it seems like their interest is high. I’m also confused on the cash back interest, and does interest collect on every thing I purchase?
I’m not a money crazy college kid.. I took a consumer law class. I know what happens when you spend your money stupid. I just want to build credit in small incriments. For example, buying food and paying it right back off, gas etc.

Does it hurt my credit score to close a credit card account?

My oldest credit card (by a few months compared to my 2nd oldest) has carried a 0 balance for longer than a year now. I never use it, ever. Would it be better to close it or keep it open? I’ve been told that canceling your oldest credit card hurts your credit but I’m not sure maintaining one with a permanent 0 balance will do much good either.

What is the best credit card for me?

If I am 19, have never had a credit card before, have never been in debt, don’t really have a credit record (I presume), am planning to pay off my balance every month, and am planning to use it for online purchases?
How can I compare interest rates, etc? What are some good questions to ask when getting a credit card?

How will my credit be affected if I cancel a credit card I've had for 2 years that is in good standing?

I have a credit card thru my bank (Wachovia) and I have paid it off on time and in full every month for the past 2 years and I also just got a new Discover card, and after comparing the rates, my Wachovia card has an APR of 18.24% and the Discover card’s rate is 9.99%. I’ve been told that I should keep the Wachovia card for credit check purposes since I’ve kept up with it so well for this long, but just to avoid potential trouble in the future, I’m thinking about cancelling it, especially since I rarely use it now anyway (maybe just a couple times a month just so I’ll have something to pay off– that looks good, right?) What should I do?

What's the best cash back credit card?

I don’t need any good low interest credit cards. I always pay in full so that isn’t a problem. I don’t want a card with an annual fee.

So currently I have two cash back credit cards.

1.
3% cash back on gas, groceries, fastfood, and 1% on all others.

2. 3% cash back on resturants, office supplies, and i think something else. 1% on all other.

So i’m thinking if there is another credit card that offers cash back on different stuff that is like 3% or higher, why not get one?

Is there one that gives cash back for entertainment? I don’t want any sony credit cards or something that is only for certain stores. I want a Visa, Mastercard, American Express.

Does AE offer like 5% for resturants? and wireless bills?
I have like sprint internet where you can use it anywhere and it’s a usb device but i believe it counts as a wireless bill. I also don’t want miles. I don’t fly so those are useless to me. I just want cash back. CASH. I want to earn money.

Best ways to build credit with no credit and a debit card?

A credit report site is unable produce my credit history because I had no credit even though I had a debit card issued by my bank for at least two years.

An almost unending stream of flow of credit card offers from Capital One, which I ignore. (I’m afraid that I would somehow misuse it in one way or another.)

I seem to have bad luck in getting jobs from school during the semester, either due to bad timing or looking in the wrong places.

I spent most of my checking on half the textbooks I bought from my college bookstore, none of which could be found online, except maybe in a marketplace.

Now I found out that I could save a great deal online on the other half of the books I need, for about half the price, Unfortunately, I don’t have enough in my checking, and I wanted to order my books asap, as the semester already started. (I was also afraid of losing my order.) Then there was this "bill me later" option and I thought, "Great, once my mom helps me deposit in a few days, I can pay by the end of the week!" And Wham! "Bill me later" was unable to process.

Feh. Bloody brilliant. And my mom was supposed to help me deposit today, er, well, yesterday

I apologize if there were a couple of points that didn’t seem to relate to this. The point is, how the heck am I supposed to build my credit if all the credit lenders would do is deny me or anybody in a similar situation? I’ve also heard that building credit is getting harder than before, especially those without credit like me. It’s seriously driving me insane.

I’ll thank you for your time. And please, don’t give all that "I am a lender" kind of crap. Nobody needs that.
It just seems to me that there have been some people who obviously doesn’t understand that I don’t like nonsense kind of answers, like the ones Mini and Oman posted. Please, don’t just post links. Explain them, personal experiences at best. Thank you.
Ted: You bring up a good point. Thanks! I haven’t really thought about it before, but now that I think about, it makes sense.

As to the credit card offers that I get (Capital One mostly, and Discovery, recently), would that be a good a idea to take up one of their offers? What do you guys think? Which card do you guys recommend for college kid like me, all school and no work?

What is the best type of Credit Card for Rewards/Points etc…?

I am aware that when you sign up for a credit card there are various offers that if you use to a certain extent you get frequent flier miles so you can go out of the country free.
What I’m asking here, is there a certain website that lists all these benefits and the type of Credit Card that offers this service and what type of Credit Card do you guys use that you think is really good.
I’m asking this because I just started my first credit card and I’m wondering since I have established a credit history I would like to apply a more appealing credit card assuming I get accepted.
Thank you! :D

Which credit card is best for air miles?

We have excellent credit. We are building a house and my daughter that just finished collage to be a CPA keeps telling me that she pays for everything with her credit card then has one big bill at the end of the month. She earns points.
She says we should do the same.
I look at the different cards and don’t know which one would be best. We would pay the balance off with each statment. US air has already sent us one with some miles on it. I also have a Delta Gold offer with quite a few miles in there offer.
Please help I need to order somethings and keep putting it off because I want to get the points and dont’ know what card it going to work the best.

Ideas on Best Credit Cards out there right now?

Hello everyone!

I am looking into getting another Credit Card as I only have 1 right now and the rewards program is not the best (I have excellent credit). I am looking for one that offers air miles as rewards ideally for as many airlines as possible (amongst other benefits), I am avoiding getting an airline specific card as then I am stuck with that airline only.

Anyone with more experience in this field help??

Thanks,
